Crazy Horse

Takigi Noh

September 14th, 2001 at 8 PM,
and September 15 at 2 & 8 PM

These three outdoor, torch-lit performances at the Japan Town Peace Plaza in SF were free and open to the public

Directed by Yuriko Doi, and composed by Richard Emmert, this production featured an international cast including Noh master performer Masashi Nomura as Crazy Horse, Japanese and Native American instrumentalists such as maverick Noh musician Shonosuke Okura on the shoulder drum. Featured choreography by Hanay Geiogamah, Director of American Indian Dance Theater.

Crazy Horse led the audience on a journey of space time and place to reconcile the past and connect to the modern in a way that Japanese traditional Noh theater and Native American spirit world can offer. The music is based upon the Noh structure, and fused with Native American music and instruments.
